ANNOUNCING A NEW PARENT GROUP

 

This group is designed to help parents that are struggling with their adolescent or young adult child’s troubling behaviors.

Are you struggling with your child’s behavior?  Are you worried about their wellbeing? Is your adolescent’s or young adult’s acting out affecting other family members in a negative way? Are you feeling overwhelmed and defeated at times? Is your child’s behavior deteriorating? This Group can help you.

 

This Group is designed to help parents of teenagers and young adults (over 12 years old) that are experiencing behavioral problems, presenting with at risk behaviors, isolating from the family and having a negative impact on other family members.

 

The cause of adolescent acting out may be related to psychiatric conditions, substance use, stress and/or issues related to family functioning.

 

Having worked with adolescents and families for over thirty years, this group will integrate much of what I have learned over this time. I have treated families in my practice as well as in a structured outpatient setting, with a focus on mental health, substance and co-occurring issues.

 

Education will be provided covering causes and basic concepts of addressing behavioral problems including; cognitive, psychodynamic and systems interventions. Topics will include alignment, splitting, contracting, empowerment, the destructive effects of secondary gain, and identifying when substance use is a problem, as well as the use of psychiatric evaluations and psychotropic medications. 

An interactive process group will also be incorporated allowing parents to share experiences, gain support and receive feedback. 

 

The group will meet on Thursday nights for ten consecutive weeks. The start date is yet to be determined. Group will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 PM

 

Individual therapy sessions may also be indicated and can be arranged.  I will also help with providing referral’s if treatment if indicated.

 

Participants must live in Florida or NJ only as that is where I am licensed. Please note I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in NJ and Fl. and a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in NJ as well as a Certified Addiction Counselor in Fl.

 

 

This will be a closed group format and all participants will be screened for appropriateness.

The cost is $1000 per household with a single parent or pair of parents

 

A minimum of five families will be required to register for the course to proceed. Maximum number of parents (one or two from each family) will be ten families.  Single parents or a couple attending together count as one. If you are separated you may still attend as a couple for the same price

.

Week Five:       Maintaining and Avoiding Relapse

 

Week Six thru Eight:     Process and Education as needed.  Group discussion and process will occur as

                                         well as Education as the needs of the group are identified.
